Humbucker Coilsplit Testmod Researched and written by Esquire Here are the pictures to show you how to hear your "WRHP" in single coil mode and how easy it is to try this without altering your original wiring. 1. Take off pickguard and solder two different color wires to the posts shown on "WRHP" (See picture 1). I used "Red" and "green". Make sure you do not get solder on the back of "WRHP" just on the respective post. 2. Put back on pickguard (use only a few screws) and restring with soldered wires coming out from pickguard on switch side. (See picture 2). 3. With wires unconnected outside the pickguard you are still stock with Full "WRHP". 4. Twist "Red" and "Green" wires together and you have the *single coil closest to the neck of the "WRHP" on by itself. Very cool single coil tone! (See pic 3) Remember to try your middle position with the selector switch. * This is the coil I will be using in my mod. 5. Untwist the "Red" and "Green" wires. Now take the "Red" wire and make contact with the Bridge (a screw or spring make sure you have good contact) - you will know - you'll hear that single coil tone SWEET! (See picture 4.) This is the single coil closest to the bridge of the "WRHP". Again try the middle position of the selector switch. Now that wasn't so hard and you have experienced something most have missed with this pickup and a mighty nice tone at that. Obviously this is NOT the way to wire this mod for optimum performance. I wanted you to have a way to see if you like it before you decide to go the next step. I'm working on the push/pull on the "tone control" of the "WRHP" to get this (*) single coil tone by pulling up. Pushing down on the tone would put you right back to stock with full "WRHP". EAR CANDY!!! Have Fun! By the way just unsolder your test wires and you're back to stock but probably not for long once you've experienced this. One last point when you are testing, put your volumes and tones full, first, then adjust as desired so you can really hear the difference. Full Control Volume Knobs Contributed by Scott-O-Caster. This mod allows full adjustment of the two volume controls when the switch is in the middle position, instead of cutting off both pups completely when one volume is turned down. The howto-description is included in the picture to the right. Home |
