Welcome to my Nintendo cover music website! Here you'll find my cover
versions of music from the 8-bit Nintendo video game console (NES)
that I've arranged and played on guitar, bass, keyboards and other
instruments. The style is mostly inspired by classic '70s rock and funk, and
I currently have two CDs out, entitled "Sex, Drugs and Nintendo" and
"Nintendosploitation". All songs are freely available on this website.
Feel free to comment and grade my music as you please. I also have a MySpace page, but this is the main site. 17 Aug 2008 At the moment I'm working more frantically than ever to finish a new album. I'm seeing the end now song sequence is nearly decided. Should be finished before the end of 2008! Current status: circa 10 songs complete, several in progress. Goal: approx 14 tracks / 55 minutes. The Music / Downloads Note: My music has shown up in a variety of places on the web, some of which actually sell my songs for money. I am not associated with any of these sites (apart from a couple of music forums), and if you pay for my stuff, it's your loss and not my gain. This page and my Myspace are the only official outlets for my music 100% free. Latest song uploaded 9 October 2007. Album: "Nintendosploitation"Runtime Records liecd02 Released 23 June 2005 My second record, comprised of freely rearranged renditions of some of my (and hopefully some of your) favourite NES tunes, inspired by early '70s Blaxploitation and rock music. Many of the tracks have elements of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Barry White and other groovy artists from the times of funk, that you may recognize if you're crazy enough... Note: several tracks are directly segued into the next, which explains a couple of abrupt intros and outros if heard separately. Album: "Sex, Drugs and Nintendo"Runtime Records liecd01 Released August 2004 This was my first attempt at covering NES songs, and they turned out pretty decent for what they are straight and short covers of the originals played on guitar and piano with the occasional solo/improvisation. Printable cover images (in Swedish only): Outside | Inside Note: only ogg files available for now.

Synti, 3DRealms Forums About video game music and my take on the genre... Making covers of Nintendo tunes and other video game music is not a new idea, and there's plenty of people on the net doing it one way or another (see below for links to other places to check out). Since musicians and gamers have realized that the music in games like the Mega Man, Zelda and Final Fantasy series (to name only a few) is amazing, and because it's so easy and cheo with a computer and a minimal amount of other gear, hundreds of these songs have been ripped and turned inside out a number of ways and times. Sometimes it produces awesome new creations, sometimes they're merely weak shadows of the originals (and even against the great stuff, I think the originals really stand up, in all their 80s chipset glory). Making a cover of a video game song and usually rearranging it is commonly called remixing (a term often deprived of its real meaning), and it is done in a number of different ways and musical styles. Synthesizers, midi sequencers and sampled instruments tend to dominate this part of the music sphere, but I try to do my songs with as many "real" instruments and recording methods as possible, though I certainly don't have a wide array of equipment at hand (except for guitars and tube amps...). The idea has been to do the songs with a '60s and '70s sounding rock and funk sound, and most importantly, to make it sound "authentic", meaning dirty, funky, and not too tight and slick (though admittedly, I've exaggerated a bit sometimes :o) ). My setup has almost exclusively been a Shure SM57 microphone in front of a tube guitar amp, or above the piano, and then basically straight into the computer, recording in Adobe Audition. The keyboards are usually some kind of software synthesizer. There are also some vintage/reissue guitar effects and amps, lotsa reverb, some (software) compressor. Much of the dirt comes automatically with the miked setup and the instrument equipment. Modeling gear and software can sound great I just try to aim for the real deal as much as possible myself, when I can, and it also suits my style of music. Gear used so far in recording Guitars: '94 Hamer Archtop Studio, '75 Fender Telecaster (my dad's), Fender '72 Tele Custom reissue, '70s Aria Pro II (LP Special P90) (sold), Samick Greg Bennett Jazz Bass. Amps: '74 Ampeg VT-40 (for all bass parts and some guitars), Homebuilt AX84 P1, Homebuilt '55 Fender Tremolux. Other instruments and thangs: Midi keyboard with VST software synths and soundfonts (mostly Rhodes, Hammond, clavinet and vibe sounds), My parents upright piano, Bongo drums, maracas, egg shakers, guiro, Shure SM57 dynamic microphone. Outboard effects: Colorsound wah-wahs, Colorsound Tonebender reissue, '81 MXR Micro Amp. Computer hardware and recording software: Compaq with M-Audio Delta 66 soundcard running Micros~1 Windows XP, Cool Edit Pro/Adobe Audition, Winamp and Nosefart NSF Player. Mid-80s Akai hifi amp with Marantz speakers as monitor.
